NLC STRIKE: CENTRAL HOSPITAL UGHELLI UNDER LOCK AND KEY

By Akpomedawaro Ike

Staffs of the Central Hospital Ughelli joined their colleagues in the state's public service to embark on the nationwide warning strike declared by the National Labour Congress, NLC early Thursday morning.

A visit to the hospital by NewsPointArena reporters saw patients discharged in their numbers as many offices were locked up.

The hospital gate was also closed as vehicles were denied entrance into the hospital premises.

Comments from a nurse,  Roseline O. lamented the plight of Nigerian workers as political leaders have taken advantage of their vulnerability to shortchange them and deny them of their entitlements.

She said, "our leaders are heartless, they are indifferent to our sufferings. While workers struggle daily to power the nation, they neglect us to suffer by denying us our wages. A country that neglects it's workforce to perish, does so at it's own risk".

She also added, "this strike is long overdue and I commend the labour leaders for standing their ground and taking a step in the right direction. Solidarity forever"

Meanwhile, patients appealed to the government to quickly meet the demand of the striking workers as many of them lack the means to patronize private hospitals.
